Mike O'Shaughnessy 's THREE POEMS

First. “Boiled Eggs”

we boiled eggs in the inflatable pool
and fried bacon on the patio.
they say global warming is a myth
but in my neighborhood
every bird's a phoenix
and every tabby's
burning bright.

Second. “Monkey's Nephew”
Don't be ashamed of the origin of your species
(Adam and Eve ate ants off a stick)

Even though Moses threw his own feces
God still decided to give him those bricks

Final. “Tapes Playing to Teach Bird to Talk”
At my father’s b’day, we had
moonshine my grandfather
had buried in the ground 15
yrs ago. I am not
lahying, y’all.
